Buying a Washing Machine
You can buy a basic washing machine to simply to get the clothes clean or you can buy a more complex low energy washing machine which has a large variety of settings enabling you select the best combination for the type of clothes you are washing. While there are many factors to consider, the most important are the spin speed (the faster the speed the dryer the clothes), wash load, energy rating and warranty. Before however choosing a washing machine with the features you want, you will need to know where the machine will be installed, so you can ensure it will fit and can easily be connected to both the power supply and plumbing. If you are connecting a new washing machine to existing plumbing it is likely that you will have both a hot and cold water supply whereas your new washing machine will be cold fill only – just simply connect up the cold fill hose to the washing machine and screw a special blanking cap onto the unused hot water tap (available from a plumbers merchant or DIY store). If you already have a tumble dryer, you may also wish to consider matching the colour of the new washing machine with that of the dryer – while some machines still only come in white, many are available in silver/graphite and an increasing number in a variety of colours such as red and black. When shopping online it is easier to find a great deal on a washing if you can be flexible in you requirements, particularly with regard to the make and model. |
